Primary Blog/Donkey and The Bee/Building Health, Wealth, and Discipline

Brett Chotkevys, Laura Chotkevys

Welcome back to another episode of The Donkey and The Bee! It's your favorite duo, the Jackass and the Beotch, bringing you insights on living your best life. Tonight, we’re diving into the connection between being healthy and wealthy—how fitness, discipline, and a growth mindset fuel success in all areas of life.

The Morning Mindset Shift
When we first started hitting the gym, it was at a “reasonable” hour—8:30 or 9 a.m. But something shifted when we made the leap to 4:30 a.m. workouts. Initially, it felt impossible. But as we embraced the discipline of early mornings, we realized how much more time we gained and how empowered we felt starting the day ahead of everyone else.

This wasn’t just about fitness—it was about building resilience. By showing up, regardless of weather or fatigue, we became the kind of people who "just do it." That same mindset transitioned into business, where pushing through late nights and challenges became second nature.

Discipline: The Secret Sauce
Here’s the deal: discipline is like a muscle. The more you train it, the stronger it becomes.

In the gym, it’s about squeezing in that extra set or committing to a long race.
In business, it’s working weekends, staying late, or making that uncomfortable call.
Both require grit and consistency. Whether it's a physical or financial challenge, the skill sets are identical. The discipline you build by overcoming one will serve you in the other.

From Fitness to Finances (And Everything in Between)
Let’s face it—being average is easy. But pushing yourself beyond mediocrity in one area of life often trickles into others. When you commit to your health, you start seeing improvements in relationships, parenting, and professional life.

Take CrossFit, for example. We’ve been at it for five years, and some movements still stump us (okay, mostly me—Brett can do them all!). But every time we try, we improve. It’s the same with business:

You might fail at your first pitch, post, or idea.
You’ll feel awkward and make mistakes.
But every attempt builds your skills and confidence.
The key is to show up, try again, and grow.

Crossing Over: Elite Fitness Meets Elite Business
Some of the most impressive athletes at the gym have untapped potential in business. They already have the grit and discipline to excel but haven’t applied it outside the gym. Similarly, entrepreneurs who neglect their physical fitness miss out on the mental clarity and stamina that come from pushing their limits.

Here’s the truth:

When you train your body, you strengthen your mind.
When you strengthen your mind, your business thrives.
When your business thrives, your confidence soars.
It’s a cycle of self-improvement that fuels every aspect of your life.

Accountability Is the Game-Changer
We’d be lying if we said it’s always easy. There are mornings when the last thing we want to do is hit the gym. But having an accountability partner changes the game. Together, we motivate each other to show up—whether it’s 4:30 a.m. workouts or late-night grind sessions for our business.

And that’s a takeaway for you, too: surround yourself with people who push you to be better.

Final Thoughts
Life is short, and there’s no time to settle for mediocrity. Whether it’s crushing your fitness goals, scaling your business, or deepening your relationships, it all starts with discipline and a refusal to make excuses.

So, who do you want to be?
The person who lets excuses hold them back, or the one who shows up, no matter what? Remember, it’s not about loving the grind—it’s about committing to it because you’re worth the effort.

Until next time, stay disciplined, stay hungry, and keep building that healthy, wealthy life. Cheers to becoming the best version of yourself!
